One expects today’s dryer systems evolved from well-established principles. The fact is our legacy technologies were developed when production speeds were, by today’s standards, relatively slow. Space was ample, energy was cheap and abundant, and most of today’s common materials did not yet exist.

Of course, those technologies still work today—to a degree.
